Avonex Side Effects
Tell your doctor if the following common side effects associated with Avonex treatment are severe or do not go away:
- Fever
- Chills
- Sweating
- Muscle aches
- Tiredness
- Heartburn
- Indigestion
- Stomach pain
- Injection site reaction
- Nervousness
- Diarrhea
- Dizziness
- Nausea
Some other side effects may result from the use of Avonex. Patients should call their doctor immediately if they experience any of the following:
- Palpitations
- Allergic reaction
- Chest pain
- Black, tarry stools
- Dark/bloody urine
- Painful/difficult urination
- Depression
- Jaundice (yellowing) of skin or eyes
- Infection
- Drop in blood cell count
- Blood clots
- Heart problems
- Changes in thyroid function
- Seizures
It is unknown how Avonex will affect pregnancy or breastfeeding. Women should consult their doctor before taking Avonex. Call your doctor if you become pregnant while being treated with Avonex
Patients may feel depressed while taking Avonex. Tell your family or doctor if you feel unusually sad while being treated with Avonex. This could be a side effect.
Patients with liver problems should consult their doctor before beginning treatment with Avonex.
Do not take Avonex if you have an allergy to Avonex (interferon beta) or other similar medications.
