Casodex
Casodex is an antiandrogen medication prescribed in combination with a luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) to treat metastatic prostate cancer. Casodex blocks the effects of testosterone in the body by stopping the growth and spread of cancer cells.
The following side effects have been associated with Casodex:
- Hot flashes
- Bone/back/pelvic pain
- Headache
- Sweating
- Bloody urine
- Weight change
- Jaundice
- Chest pain

Casodex is prescribed in combination with an LHRH, such as leuprolide or goserelin, to treat prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body.
Patients should speak with their doctor about the use of any medications, vitamins or supplements before taking Casodex.
Before beginning treatment with Casodex, patients should consult their doctor if they are taking any of the following medications:
- Alprazolam (Xanax)
- Blood thinners
- Calcium channel blockers
- Chlorpheniramine
- Statins (Lipitor, Zocor)
- Clarithromycin
- Cyclosporine
- Diazepam
- Erythromycin
- HIV protease inhibitors
- Methadone
- Midazolam
- Pimozide
- Quinidine
- Quinine
- Sildenafil
- Tacrolimus
- Tamoxifen
- Telithromycin
- Trazodone
- Triazolam
- Cincristine
Patients with a history or current diagnosis of any of following conditions should consult their doctor before treatment with Casodex:
- Liver disease
- Allergies to medications similar to Casodex
Typical Dosage Recommendations
Casodex dosages may vary among patients and conditions. Patients should take Casodex exactly as prescribed by their doctor.
Casodex is distributed as a 50 mg tablet. Treatment with Casodex should be started at the same time as treatment with an LHRH.
Women should not take Casodex.
Missing a Dose of Casodex
If you miss a dose of Casodex, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule. Do not double a dose to make up for your missed dose.
Casodex Overdose
Patients who overdose on Casodex may collapse or stop breathing. Call your doctor immediately if you believe you have overdosed on Casodex.

There are no recalls or Black Box warnings for Casodex.
Other Warning
Casodex may potentially cause liver damage. Patients should consult their doctor about monitoring their liver function while being treated with Casodex.
Casodex may cause breast swelling and pain.
