Chantix Side Effects
Chantix has varied degrees of influence on those using the medication and the side effects experienced by a patient using Chantix may differ from patient to patient. Below are several side effects associated with the use of Chantix.
- nausea
- heartburn
- drowsiness
- headache
- gas
- vomiting
- sleeping disorders
- constipation
- sudden increase or decrease of appetite
- lingering bad taste in the mouth
- nightmares
- irregular muscle contractions
Certain conditions should be immediately reported to a physician including:
- skin allergy, skin rash
- swelling of face, mouth, tongue, arms, legs or throat
- instances of depression
- hostility
- suicidal tendencies
- respiratory problems
- blisters in the mouth
- rash
- difficulty swallowing
- peeling of the skin
- stomach ache
- fatigue
- weakness
- mood swings
- psychosis
- homicidal drives
- seizures
- sight disorder
- hallucinations
Like any other high intensity medicine, Chantix should be used with caution.
A patient should discontinue use of Chantix if a change in behavior occurs (specifically in a violent manner). Family members or friends should be aware of any changes in behavior and report any alterations to a doctor.
Chantix is to be used by adults 18 years of age and older.
A doctor may wish to avoid prescribing Chantix to those with mental illness or a history of mental illness. Patients with a kidney problem should not be prescribed Chantix. Inform your doctor if you have a kidney problem or a history of mental illness.
Pregnant women or women planning to become pregnant should not take this medication.
Inform your doctor of your medical history before beginning Chantix treatment. A doctor needs to be aware if the patient is on insulin, takes medications for asthma, requires blood thinners or has kidney disease.
It is important for a patient to understand the process of quitting smoking. Address your doctor with any questions or concerns before taking Chantix.
Patients taking Chantix may experience drowsiness and should be very careful while working or driving. Additionally, a patient may notice changes in mood, and a doctor should be contacted immediately if this occurs.
Women who are pregnant or wish to become pregnant should not use Chantix. Mothers who are breast feeding should also avoid use of this medication.
