Specific precautions
The clindamycin capsule should be taken along with a glass of water or food. Never take this antibiotic on an empty stomach to avoid esophageal irritation.
Inform your doctor if you have allergic reactions to clindamycin, lincomycin, or any other medications.
Complete the full course of treatment with clindamycin to ensure another infection does not develop. If symptoms do not get better or if they get worse, contact your doctor.
Inform your doctor if you become pregnant or plan to be pregnant while taking this medication.
Nursing mothers should avoid taking this medication.
Clindamycin may be given to pediatric patients ranging from birth to 16 years of age. It is important to monitor organ functions in this group.

Questions to ask your physician
Notify your doctor about all the medications you are taking, including over-the-counter medications and health supplements. Ask your doctor if you can take these medications along with clindamycin.
Additional drugs
Taking clindamycin along with erythromycin is not recommended. Sometimes, the patients have to take both the medications for their condition. If both medicines have to be taken together, the doctor will change the dose and timings of clindamycin.
Severe diarrhea during the treatment with clindamycin can be a side effect of this antibiotic. Do not take any medications for diarrhea without consulting your doctor. Some drugs for diarrhea such as loperamide, diphenoxylate and atropine can make the diarrhea worse.
Diarrhea medicines containing attapulgite (Diasorb, Donnagel, Kaopectate, Parepectolin) can cure this side effect, but attapulgite will affect the absorption of clindamycin into the body.
Food/alcohol
Using alcohol or tobacco with clindamycin may affect treatment, so talk with your doctor about the risks involved.
