Janumet Description:
Janumet is an antihyperglycemic combination medication used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Patients with type 2 diabetes have high blood sugar levels because the body does not properly use insulin, which is a hormone responsible for transporting sugar made from ingested food out of the blood stream and into the cells where it is used as energy. Janumet works to decrease high blood sugar levels by promoting the effective use of insulin, increasing the amount of insulin made in the pancreas and reducing the amount of sugar made by the body.

- Fatigue
- Gas
- Headache
- Indigestion

Janumet Uses:
Janumet is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise in the treatment of adult patients with type 2 diabetes. By lowering high blood sugar levels, Janumet helps decrease the risk of dangerous complications associated with diabetes such as heart disease and kidney disease.
Janumet is not used in the treatment of type 1 diabetes.

Janumet Dosage Information:
Typical Dosage Recommendations
Janumet dosages may vary among patients. Your doctor will establish the size and frequency of your dosage depending upon your individual needs. It is important to follow the dosage guidelines established by your doctor.
Janumet is administered in the form of an oral tablet and is available in the following dosages:
- 50 mg sitagliptin/500 mg metformin hydrochloride
- 50 mg sitagliptin/1000 mg metformin hydrochloride
Patients generally take Janumet twice a day. It should be taken with meals in order to decrease the likelihood of unwanted side effects.
Missing a Dose of Janumet
If you forget to take a dose of Janumet, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and resume your normal dosage schedule. To not take a double dose of this medication to compensate for a missed dose.
Janumet Overdose
An overdose of Janumet may result in lactic acidosis or other dangerous complications. Contact your doctor or seek immediate medical attention if you believe you may have overdosed on Janumet.

Janumet Recall/Black Box Warning Information:
Janumet, along with other medications containing metformin, carries a black box warning stating that patients using the medication are at risk of developing lactic acidosis, a metabolic complication with sudden onset that results in fatality in about half of all cases. Patients with a history of health problems such as kidney, liver and heart complications are at a higher risk of acquiring lactic acidosis. You may be at additional risk if you consume large amounts of alcohol, become dehydrated, have surgery, undergo particular x-ray tests, have a heart attack or stroke or are above the age of 80.
