ProAir HFA Description: 

ProAir HFA is prescribed to patients to treat and prevent bronchospasm in patients with reversible obstructive airway disease. Bronchospasm occurs when the muscles in the walls of the bronchioles (airways) constrict, narrowing the airway. ProAir HFA also treats bronchospasm caused by exercise.

ProAir HFA is inhaled to open up the airways, increasing the flow of air into the lungs.

  • Headache
  • Tachycardia
  • Pain
  • Dizziness
  • Sore throat
  • Runny nose

ProAir HFA Uses: 

ProAir HFA is used in the treatment and prevention of bronchospasm in those with reversible obstructive airway disease. The medication is also prescribed to treat exercise-induced bronchospasm. In the instance of exercise-induced bronchospasm, the condition is triggered by physical activity.

ProAir HFA Interactions: 

Prior to beginning treatment with ProAir HFA, inform your doctor of the use of any supplements, vitamins, prescriptions, and medications. Certain drugs may affect the efficacy of ProAir HFA. Take extra care to discuss the use of the following medications with your doctor:

  • Beta blockers
  • Bronchodialtors
  • MAO inhibitors
  • Antidepressants
  • Digoxin
  • Diuretics

ProAir HFA Dosage Information: 

Typical Dosage Recommendations

Patients should take ProAir HFA exactly as prescribed by a doctor as instructions may vary for individual patients.

To use ProAir HFA follow the following steps:

  • Remove the cap from the mouthpiece of the actuator.
  • Shake inhaler well before each spray.
  • Hold the inhaler with the mouthpiece down, breathing out.
  • Place the mouthpiece on your mouth, sealing it with your lips.
  • Push the top of the canister down completely, while inhaling slowing and deeply.
  • Remove your finger from the canister after the spray is released.
  • Remove your mouth from the mouthpiece after you have inhaled completely.
  • Hold your breath for up to 10 seconds before resuming normal breathing.
  • If additional sprays from the canister have been prescribed by your doctor, wait one minute before repeating the above steps.
  • Once you are done taking your dose of ProAir HFa, place the cap back on the mouthpiece, snapping it into place.

Missing a Dose of ProAir HFA

If a ProAir HFA dose is missed, take it immediately when you remember. If it is nearly time for your next dose of the medication, skip the missed dose and take the next one to resume your normal dosing schedule. Do not take extra doses to compensate for a missed dose.

ProAir HFA Overdose

If an overdose of ProAir HFA occurs, seek medical attention immediately.
