Provigil Uses:
Provigil is used to reduce the symptoms of several different sleeping disorders.
It is used in the treatment of shift work sleep disorder (SWSD), a condition in which abnormal shift changes or night work shifts disrupt the body’s Circadian rhythm and cause insomnia or severe drowsiness. Provigil is used alongside other medications in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS), a condition characterized by momentary suspensions in breathing during sleep that result in poor night-time rest and excessive day-time drowsiness. Provigil is also used to treat narcolepsy, a disorder in which patients experience uncontrollable daytime bouts of sleep.
Provigil is intended to reduce the symptoms associated with these disorders and will not cure them. Provigil is not a replacement for a full night’s rest.
Because of its potential ability to produce psychoactive and euphoric sensations, Provigil is often used in a recreational and abusive manner. Provigil should only be used as prescribed by your doctor, as abuse can lead to addiction and dangerous side effects.
Provigil Interactions:
Patients should speak with their doctor about the use of any medications, vitamins or supplements before taking Provigil.
The following medications may adversely interact with Provigil:
- Antidepressants
- Birth control
- Cyclosporine
- Hormones
- Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOs)
- Tolvaptan
- Triazolam
