The most common side effects associated with Risperdal Consta include:

Risperdal Consta has been associated with other, more serious side effects including:
- High blood sugar and diabetes
- Hyperprolactinemia
- Low white blood cell count
- Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS)
- Tardive dyskinesia (TD)
Contact your doctor or seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following symptoms, as they may be indications of serious complications:
- Changes in heart rate
- Excessive thirst
- High fever
- Long-lasting erections
- Severe fatigue
- Shaking
- Stiff muscles

Risperdal Consta should not be used in the treatment of elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis, as this medication places such patients at an increased risk of fatality.
Patients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder are at an increased risk of suicide. Patients should be closely monitored for abnormal changes in behavior or suicidal thoughts.
It is very important that patients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder keep all doctor appointments. Patients must ensure they return every two weeks to receive administration of Risperdal Consta unless otherwise instructed by their doctor.
Risperdal Consta should be used with caution in patients with epilepsy or other seizure disorders.
Tell your doctor if you have a history of liver or kidney problems, cardiac disease or diabetes before taking Risperdal Consta, as this medication may cause additional complications.
Tell your doctor if you are nursing, pregnant or may become pregnant, as Risperdal Consta may cause birth defects.
What to Avoid When Taking the Drug:
Patients should not consume alcohol while under treatment with Risperdal Consta.
