Travatan
Travatan belongs to a group of medications known as prostanoid agonists and is used in the treatment of glaucoma and ocular hypertension. Travatan has been associated with the following side effects:
- Eye irritation or discomfort
- Blurred vision
- Dry eyes
- Tearing
- Headache

Travatan is used in the treatment of glaucoma and ocular hypertension. Glaucoma is a set of diseases in which eye damage results in progressive vision loss over time. Ocular hypertension, or elevated eye pressure, is an asymptomatic condition that is a potential risk factor for glaucoma. While not all ocular hypertension patients will get glaucoma, the condition does greatly increase the risk of developing the disease. Other factors can also increase a patient’s risk of developing glaucoma including a family history of the disease, race, steroid use, high blood pressure, diabetes and previous eye injury.
Travatan is generally used in patients who do not respond to alternative treatment options.
Travatan is not accompanied with any potential drug interaction warnings. However, patients should talk to their doctor about the use of all other medications, vitamins or supplements before beginning treatment with Travatan.
Patients may generally use other topical eye medications in conjunction with Travatan as long as the medications are administered at least five minutes apart.
Typical Dosage Recommendations
Travatan is administered in the form of a liquid eye drop. Patients generally administer a single drop of Travatan into each affected eye once a day in the evening. Patients should wash their hands before administering the medication and should use caution to ensure the dispenser bottle does not come into contact with the eyes or any other physical surface.
Missing a Dose of Travatan
If you forget to administer a dose of Travatan, do so as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time to administer your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and resume your normal dosage schedule. Do not administer a double dose of this medication to compensate for a missed dose.
Travatan Overdose
While an overdose of Travatan is not expected to result in life-threatening complications, patients should contact their doctor if they believe they may have administered too much of this medication.
