Trilipix

Generic Name:

Fenofibric acid

Brand Names:

Trilipix

Trilipix Description:

Trilipix is a cholesterol-lowering fibrate medication that works to lower the amount of triglycerides and LDL (“bad”) cholesterol in the body, as well as increasing levels of HDL (“good”) cholesterol. Trilipix can be used in combination with statin medications to control LDL cholesterol in people at a high risk for heart disease.

Trilipix Side Effects:

When Trilipix is taken along with other cholesterol-lowering medications called statins, a rare but serious muscle condition called rhabdomyolysis has been reported, leading to kidney damage and death in some cases. Report any of the following side effects to a doctor immediately, as they could indicate the development of rhabdomyolysis:

  • Muscle pain or tenderness
  • Muscle weakness
  • Tiredness
  • Fever

For more information, see our Trilipix side effects page.

Trilipix Uses:

Trilipix works to control cholesterol by lowering triglyceride levels, when used with a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet. The medication helps to raise levels of good cholesterol (HDL) in people who are taking a statin medication to control bad cholesterol (LDL). Trilipix has not been shown to prevent heart attacks or stroke more than a statin alone.

By raising HDL and lowering LDL, cholesterol medications such as Trilipix aid in the prevention of heart attack, stroke, chest pain, and other conditions that can result from clogged arteries.

Trilipix Interactions:

Tell your doctor about all prescription and non-prescription medications you may be taking along with Trilipix, including vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products.
