Xenical Side Effects
Common side effects of Xenical include gastrointestinal symptoms such as:
- Fecal incontinence
- Flatulence with oily spotting
- Frequent or urgent bowel movements
- Oily, loose stools
The chance of gastrointestinal side effects is increased if Xenical is taken with a very high-fat meal.
Tell your doctor about all existing conditions you may have that could affect your treatment with Xenical, including the following:
- Gallbladder problems
- Hypothyroidism
Xenical is not recommended for use in patients with any of the following conditions:
- Breast feeding
- Chronic malabsorption syndrome
- Cholestasis (impaired bile flow)
- Pregnancy
Patients taking Xenical are advised to take a multivitamin supplement containing fat-soluble vitamins (vitamins D, E, K, and beta carotene) to ensure adequate nutrition. Multivitamin supplements should be taken once a day at least 2 hours before or after taking Xenical.
The safety of Xenical has not established for treatment lasting more than 4 years.
Avoid eating high-fat foods while using Xenical. A reduced-calorie diet of no more than 30 percent calories from fat is recommended in order for Xenical to be most effective.
