Xiaflex Side Effects

The most common side effects of Xiaflex include:

  • Pain or swelling at the injection site
  • Swollen lymph nodes in the arm
  • Itching
  • Underarm pain
  • Feeling of warmth
  • Breaks in the skin

Xiaflex may also cause other, more serious side effects including:

Patients should contact their doctor if they experience any of the following:

  • Difficulty bending the injected finger or using their hand
  • Numbness or tingling sensations
  • Worsened pain in the affected hand
  • Hives
  • Swelling in the face
  • Difficulty breathing

Things to Know, Precautions, Things to Ask Your Physician: 

Tell your doctor if you are nursing, pregnant or may become pregnant before taking Xiaflex, as the potential effects of this medication on a developing fetus or breast-fed child are unknown.

Also tell your doctor if you have a bleeding problem or are currently undergoing treatment with anticoagulant medications before receiving Xiaflex.

After receiving a Xiaflex injection, patients should keep their hand elevated until bedtime. Patients will also need to complete daily finger exercises, as instructed by their doctor.

What to Avoid When Taking the Drug: 

Patients should not bend or straighten their fingers after receiving a Xiaflex injection until instructed by their doctor. In general, patients should limit use of their hand following the injection to ensure the medication does not lose its effectiveness.
