John W. Smith, MD is a physician and surgeon with over 20 years of experience across general medicine, critical care, trauma and surgical oncology, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, hand surgery and reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery. He completed his general surgery internship, residency and chief residency at New York Medical College | St. Vincent’s Hospital, followed by a Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at Weill Cornell Medical College | NorthShore University Hospital. He further trained in plastic and hand surgery at the Mayo Clinic and completed fellowships in reconstructive breast, head and neck, microsurgery oncology and aesthetic plastic surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital.

Dr. Smith has served as a surgical hospitalist and practicing plastic surgeon, holding leadership positions including Acting Assistant Director of Surgery and membership on multiple hospital executive and surgical committees. His academic appointments include Clinical Instructor in Surgery at New York Medical College and Adjunct Clinical Instructor at New York Institute of Technology | College of Osteopathic Medicine. He has contributed to peer-reviewed publications, authored a book chapter on the aging face and presented at national and international medical conferences.

Transitioning into healthcare consulting, communications and medical education, Dr. Smith has held senior roles at Omnicom Health Group, PSL Group and Publicis Health Groupe, providing strategic expertise across pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and medical devices. He also serves as a medical-legal consultant, reviewing patient records across specialties to support litigation cases.

Dr. Smith is committed to healthcare advocacy and mentorship, serving on boards including Harlem Little League, Brooklyn Ballers Inc. and the Central Harlem Senior Citizens Center, and coaching youth sports. He earned his undergraduate degree in Natural Sciences (Molecular Biology) from Colgate University and his medical degree from SUNY at Buffalo, Jacobs School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. He resides in Harlem, NY with his family.
