Ozempic Lawsuits Over Vision Loss, Stomach Problems on the Rise
As 2026 gets underway, thousands of Ozempic lawsuits are active across the country involving claims that the popular weight loss drug and others like it are tied to serious health conditions. In the last couple of months, many cases have been grouped together at both the state and federal levels as lawsuits mount.
Cases involving claims of health effects like vision loss and stomach paralysis could be in for a pivotal year as the litigation progresses.
Ozempic Blindness Lawsuits Consolidated in Federal and State Courts
Many lawsuits have been filed over claims that the use of Ozempic and GLP-1 agonist drugs could be tied to a serious condition that causes blindness.
Nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION), sometimes called an eye stroke, occurs when blood stops flowing to the optic nerve. It can cause rapid, painless and permanent vision loss.
Lawsuits were filed in the wake of research showing that GLP-1 users could be at a higher risk of developing the condition.
“NAION … is a very serious and life-altering injury that can be caused by use of Ozempic or Wegovy,” Danielle Gold, an attorney at Weitz & Luxenberg, told Drugwatch as part of our Beyond the Scale: The Ozempic Effect series. “Novo Nordisk continues to promote and sell these products without any warning or discussion in their label regarding a risk of permanent vision loss.”
Given the number of cases expected to be filed, Ozempic blindness lawsuits have now been consolidated at both the state and federal level. This places all relevant cases before a single judge to streamline proceedings.
NAION lawsuits were grouped together in New Jersey state court in November and in federal court in December.
Thousands of GLP-1 lawsuits are also active over claims that these drugs are tied to serious intestinal issues like gastroparesis and ileus.
Those cases have also been consolidated and have progressed further in the legal process. Discovery is currently underway for those lawsuits as they work toward trial.
