Social Media Multidistrict Litigation 3047 Updates & Analysis

As of August 2026, there are 3,137 social media addiction lawsuits grouped together in multidistrict litigation. Outside of the MDL, thousands of these cases have been consolidated in California state court as well.

The social media lawsuits have entered an important part of the litigation life cycle, with early cases now advancing to trial. In March 2026, Meta and Google were ordered to pay a combined $6 million to a 20-year-old woman who developed severe mental health issues after using their social media apps throughout childhood.

Other lawsuits were settled before reaching trial, including one case brought by a Kentucky school district that netted $27 million in settlements. So far, a global social media addiction settlement has not been reached.

July 22, 2026: Plaintiff Drops Case in Upcoming Social Media Bellwether Trial
