Yaz Pulmonary Embolism

Pulmonary embolism is a serious side effect linked to treatment with Yaz. The condition occurs when an artery or several arteries in the lungs are blocked, usually due to a blood clot originating in another part of the body. The blood clot travels to the lung where it becomes lodged in an artery in the lung, blocking the flow of blood.

Yaz may increase the risk of developing blood clots, such as those that originate in the legs that may cause pulmonary embolism to occur. Deep vein thrombosis occurs when a blood clot forms in a deep vein in the body. This condition, also linked to Yaz usage, may lead to the development of pulmonary embolism. The blood clots that become lodged in the arteries of the lungs during a pulmonary embolism typically originate in deep veins in the legs when a patient experiences deep vein thrombosis before traveling to the lungs.
